Looking for a wooden shelf that can adapt as your home changes? Kajo is an open solid wood shelving unit with shelves that can be positioned freely at different heights. The same piece can serve as a bookcase in the living room, a display shelf in the kitchen or a place for your favourite objects. Designed by designer and architect Elina Cerell, Kajo is handcrafted in Finland at the Havune workshop in Ylöjärvi, near Tampere.
The product has been awarded the Design from Finland and Key Flag symbols.

Made to your requirements
The idea behind Kajo is simple, and that is precisely why it works. The shelves are not fixed to the frame, so you can position them freely at different heights for tall books, low ceramics or that one object that deserves a place of its own. As life changes, the shelf can change with it.
Unlike shelving made from engineered board, solid wood Kajo ages beautifully and is built to withstand years of use and repeated moves. The surface is also easy to maintain yourself when needed.
The timber we use is sourced from Finnish suppliers with PEFC and FSC certification, helping us verify its origin and responsible forestry practices. Solar panels on the workshop roof cover a significant share of our electricity needs, especially during the summer months.
One shelf, many ways to use it
Kajo is an open solid wood shelving unit suitable for the living room, hallway, home office or bedroom. It is crafted from ash, oak or walnut and finished with a matt clear hardwax oil that protects the wood while enhancing its natural grain.
When ordering, you can choose between two shelf configurations:
3 full-width shelves for a calm, classic look
OR 1 full-width shelf and 4 half-width shelves for a lighter arrangement that accommodates objects of different heights
The shelves can be positioned freely at different heights, so you can rearrange the look of Kajo whenever you like.

Meet the designer
[ Elina Cerell ]
Elina Cerell is completing her studies in architecture and is particularly interested in a holistic approach to design. She is inspired by Alvar Aalto’s way of thinking, in which architecture extends naturally into the smallest details of a building, from furniture to door handles.
Kajo grew from the same starting point. The aim was to design a shelf that would not dictate too strongly how it should be used. Thanks to the freely adjustable shelves, Kajo adapts to different needs and provides room for both storage and display. In this way, the piece can evolve together with the home and its residents, adapting to different stages of life.
