[ The Havune story ]
A Heritage of Craftsmanship
I grew up close to nature in Kalajoki, surrounded by open fields and coniferous forests. Our neighbourhood was home to many highly skilled Ostrobothnian craftspeople. Woodworking has been an important part of my life since I was young. I have always felt the need to turn the ideas taking shape in my mind into drawings, photographs or tangible pieces of wooden furniture.
Visual details and precise craftsmanship still bring me great satisfaction in my work, and perhaps that is no surprise. A strong tradition of craftsmanship runs in the Sauvula family. My great-grandfather was a skilled maker of furniture, handcrafted objects and violins. Woodworking was also a familiar pastime with my own father.
Sweat and fresh birch shavings flew through the air on hot summer days as my father and I worked with wood in the forests of Sauvula.
At the Heart of Havune
Wood is a living material that is rewarding to work with, while also presenting fascinating challenges that I enjoy solving.
Havune was born from ideas that had been taking shape in my mind for my own furniture collection. In 2019, the time was right to register Havune Oy as a company.
Through Havune, the deeply rooted craftsmanship of my family history remains in the hands of the Sauvulas to this day. While tradition is important to me, I also follow contemporary interior design trends with curiosity. I believe Havune furniture can carry a subtle sense of its own time and the home it is made for.
